With a profound background in both chemistry and biomedical sciences, Dr. Owens brings over a decade of expertise in driving strategic operations, clinical development, and regulatory affairs for cutting-edge pharmaceutical products. His leadership journey spans roles in scientific research, medical affairs, and senior executive management, culminating in his current position as President & Chief Operating Officer of Medicure Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on cardiovascular therapies in the US market.

Dr. Owens' career trajectory has been defined by his ability to lead cross-functional teams, create strategy in a dynamic pharmaceutical and pharmacy landscape, navigate complex regulatory pathways, and successfully market innovative products to physicians and patients.   • Market Access & Commercial Strategy: Expertise in creating market access strategies, enhancing product coverage, and negotiating business-to-business (B2B) partnerships. Proven success in scaling product adoption and securing coverage across large insurance networks.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Leadership in managing cross-functional teams, mentoring medical science liaisons (MSLs), and implementing a culture of collaboration and accountability within scientific and operational teams.

Research Experience & Credentials

Dr. Owens began his scientific research career with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Organic Chemistry from the University of Manitoba, building a strong foundation in the interface of chemistry and biology. Dr. Owen's four year research tenure as a postdoctoral researcher at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (France) further refined his scientific expertise.
